Haus Havanna receives architecture award

Steinbauer Architektur
Haus Havanna was awarded the best architects 24 award in July2023.

The best architects award is one of the most prestigious architecture awards.

What began as a call for bids/architectural contest (redesign of the facade in Haus Havanna, new interior and open space concepts) was developed by Kaltenbacher Architektur for the Tabakfabrik Linz.

Inspired by Peter Behrens, the new facade is intended to complement the building with a coherent monument preservation concept. The main actor is the glass brick – this breathed new life and light into it.

The glass facade curtain stands out in the Tabakfabrik Linz. It consists of 70,000 glass bricks and extends over six floors. The newly created staircase tower inside creates an introverted environment for the individually designed office and educational areas.

The credo of the revitalization was to maintain the balance of the industrial monument with the new facade statements and to reinforce it with a coherent monument preservation concept. Completion was in 2022.

The Havanna House received the award in the “renovation & addition” category.

The «best architects award» was created in 2006 to filter out the best and most interesting architecture projects the German-speaking countries have to offer in order to present them to a broad, interested public. In 2015 the award competition was opened up to participants Europe-wide.
